It was Illness that deprived us of the company of Rhoda and
Lloyd yesterday and weather that broke up our plans to day sail with my friend
Stuart Barnett and his oldest child, Jadon, age eight, today. Stu is a broker at Schwab. I told Stu that
if I had dragged him out to sea in such strong winds and heavy rains, he would have
cursed me and never sailed again. And we gave them a rain check for the fall, possibly on the way back, or from the Harlem YC.
So today we cleaned, blogged, rested, read, repaired
and tied a fifth and a sixth dockline (suspenders with the belt) to keep us
attached to the dock in the expected strong winds. This photo is before the
heavy wind and heavy rain but the grayness and dampness of the day is apparent. (Only the standard four docklines at this point.)
Our friends did come over in the late afternoon to check out
ILENE. Jadon was very inquisitive about everything nautical and tried on
the new child-size life preserver. Alfie, the camera hog, got herself into the pic!
After some wine, Stu took us to a local
Greek restaurant – by car. He thus expanded our Port Jeff neighborhood to beyond of the area to which we can walk; and then to Uncle Guiseppe’s supermarket for a few things that
Ilene wanted.
A quiet day.
