June 14 - A Third Day in Port Jeff

Well, we had planned to stay two nights in P.J. but ended up staying three. The captain would have sailed to Essex CT, about 45 miles mooring to mooring, but strong winds were expected and some rain, so Admiral Ilene said: “No”. Chris, one of the sons of our friends, Bob and Brenda, of "Pandora," has a saying about persisting in sailing against the wishes of one’s wife: it can be a “career limiting move”.  The sad part is that the same Bob and Brenda had set up a dinner party in Essex for the four of us and two other couples who also sail Saga Yachts, which we missed. Their address is where the repair parts (filter) to get our pressure water system operable again is being delivered, and we will see them Saturday night instead of Friday. Such a rendezvous is also necessary because we are delivering to them, by boat, the door pulling repair tool that KC designed for us, which was featured on a posting this past winter; a bulky thing to keep on a boat for three months.
By the way, the wind and rain were less than expected, so 20/20 hindsight says we should have gone, because the wind may be too light for a good sail the next day, so we may have to motor a bit to get there in time. (But not to worry, I planned for some such delays and we will still get to Provincetown in time for our rendezvous with our Granddaughter, Alexandra, who is visiting there with her dad, Mark, from Portland Oregon.)

Anyway, we had a very lazy day of reading, with few projects.  I could have done more but vegged out. In the afternoon the dock manager came to us and said that he was sorry but we would have to move to a mooring because (and we could see it) with the approach of the weekend members of the Seatauket wanted to use their dock. We did buy two tickets to and attended a summer stock production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, which was fun.
Pre-theater, Ilene cooked our first diner aboard of this cruise, which was both cheaper and better than what one can get in most restaurants, with a frozen yogurt for me on the way to the theater. A very calm night.
