August 10 -- Lay Day and Theater In South Kensington

Yes, another day on anchor, but this time our dinghy took us south to Snug Harbor, which we had passed to port on the way in, rather than north to Old Wakefield.  An easy dink trip because with a 1.5 foot draft instead of ILENE's 5' 10", there is no need to stay in  the channel. The gas station attendant at the Point Judith Marina asked for a contribution to the food pantry for the right to leave our dink behind  their fuel dock -- a good cause; and we decided to leave $20 with a good taste in our mouths. The day before the Marina operator  -- not the friendly Ram Island Marina--demanded the same amount with no mention of any charity -- which seemed exorbitant. With the dinghy safe, we called Uber for a ride to the historic Theater By The Sea, and before that to the adjacent Bistro By The Sea for an excellent simple light lunch, served to us my Maive -- more about her shortly.
The show was "Newsies" a musical revived from about ten years ago about an 1899 strike by the penniless newspaper boys in lower Manhattan against no less than Joseph Pulitzer. And the boys won! Well they had a bit of help from Teddy Roosevelt who then was Governor of New York. An uplifting
message in this day and age when working people seem more and more downtrodden. A fun afternoon with an energetic group of singers and dancers.
But the ride back to retrieve the dink was thwarted by the absence of available Uber drivers and at about four miles, it was too far to walk. We kept trying and eventually took to thumbing our way back. By the way, I have been wearing this hat to protect against more skin cancers, but I took it off while thumbing in order to avoid looking like a potential terrorist. The color of my hair reassuringly identifies me as aged beyond that of most violent criminals.
A lovely generous woman stopped for us and went out of her way to bring us back to Point Judith Marina. And in talking with  her we learned that her daughter was the aforementioned Maive!!   Rhode Island is a small state. Maive's sister also works at the same restaurant. Thanks again Maive's mom!
The dinghy ride back to ILENE was uneventful. There was light wind so no salt water spray as we experienced the day before.

Our little anchorage section of the Pond had a dozen boats anchored on a lovely cool Saturday night.
This was our third and last night on our anchor in the same spot in the Pond.
